The Affair Saved the Relationship

A friend recently came up to me and actually claimed that the affair had saved the relationship. I mean, really? "The affair saved the relationship" sounds anything but believable. I mean, in how many serious relationships can this "the affair saved the relationship" thing really be true? I'd say, not that many. In general you shouldn't count on it ending well. Because strictly speaking, you're cheating on your partner whether you want to admit it or not. Most people will be rather less tolerant about that. Rightly so. Can "the affair saved the relationship" even be a thing?

I find it very hard to imagine that there are people who are happy that their own partner cheated. I mean, "the affair saved the relationship" sounds more like wishful thinking. But fine. Anyway, he told me that this was exactly how it was. The relationship hadn't been going so well for a while. Both were apparently unhappy in their roles. And so one thing led to another and he cheated. He described it as a kind of relief, a burden suddenly lifted from his shoulders. This other woman gave him something he had been searching for in vain until then. "The affair saved the relationship" – maybe not so far-fetched after all?

The Affair Saved the Relationship – When Both Think the Same Way

Afterwards, when the two talked it over, it came out that she thought similarly. His partner had also been less happy in the relationship for quite some time. She didn't blame him for the affair. Instead, the two talked to each other to find a solution together. Here it really is true: "the affair saved the relationship." It opened their eyes to each other and let them see what they really have in the other. So the myth that an affair saved a relationship can be true, but only in exceptional cases.
